Enroll in OPT440: Freeform Optics

This course is now open for enrollment!  Because it is fully online and adheres to best practices, it is available to the community at large, not just to students at the University of Rochester. 

This course provides a comprehensive exploration of the rapidly evolving field of freeform optical systems — a key technology driving innovation in imaging (from microscopy to space optics), sensing, augmented reality, and other applications. Thus, if you want to catch that wave and surf with us this fall and most likely for years to come, join us!

  • What You’ll Learn in OPT440:– What is freeform optics, and when leveraged in optical systems- Fundamentals of freeform surface design, fabrication techniques, and metrology- Raytracing freeform optical systems, wavefront analysis, and optimization techniques- Real-world applications in consumer electronics, aerospace, and biomedical imaging- Hands-on experience with leading optical design tools via hands-on design workshops

    – Demos on emerging metrology tools for freeform optics (bonus for those on site)
